North Carolina officials on Tuesday announced that an Indiana-based maker of outdoor furniture from recycled plastics intends to build a new manufacturing facility and distribution center in Roxboro.
Polywood’s $35.3 million complex will also include a reclamation center where recycled plastics will be processed and used on-site or sold.
The company, which said its Indiana facility exceeded its capacity, expects to create 384 new jobs at the North Carolina site over five years.
The state’s Economic Investment Committee this week approved a Job Development Investment Grant that would reimburse the company for up to $3.33 million over 12 years if employment and investment targets are met. Reports showed a total state investment of nearly $4 million, with Person County adding another $1 million.
Officials said the project would contribute $439 million in economic impact over the 12-year life of the grant. The jobs are expected to have an average salary of more than $43,000, and overall payroll should exceed $14 million once all positions are filled.
Gov. Roy Cooper said the announcement shows the state’s furniture sector “can continue to adapt and succeed, thanks to our strong workforce.”
