A medical device manufacturer plans to invest another $100 million in facilities in Florida and create dozens of additional jobs, a local economic development official said last week.
The Daytona Beach News-Journal reports that B. Braun Medical, which has invested $250 million to date at a former Gambro medical device manufacturing facility in Daytona Beach, expects to further expand its operations in the coastal city.
B. Braun originally planned to create 175 manufacturing jobs in the city, but the additional investment will create 100 more positions. Kent Sharples, president of the CEO Business Alliance, outlined the company’s plans at a meeting of the Daytona Beach City Commission.
Sharples predicted B. Braun’s local workforce “will be over 500 by the time they get through here.”
The Daytona facility plans to produce IV solutions products for hospitals — if approved by the U.S. Food and Drug Administration — but the additional spending would allow B. Braun to broaden its product offerings.
The company also operates a distribution center with 30 employees in Daytona.
B. Braun plans an official announcement in the city next month.
