Fort Worth, Texas-based Allied Electronics & Automation recently announced plans to expand its warehouse space from 300,000 to 520,000 square feet in the form of a new distribution center that will be built alongside the current facility. According to the company, it will provide capacity for more than a half-million products when it opens in mid-2020. This represents a nearly three-fold increase over current capacity levels.
In addition to a new building, Allied will also invest significantly in some key warehouse technologies, including:
-
26 additional receiving stations
-
The latest automated order, storage, and retrieval shuttle system (OSR)
-
A GTP (Goods-to-Person) pick system with robotics for repetitive tasks
-
An RFID pocket sortation and consolidation system that will enable pick-to-line process capabilities
-
Automated packing capabilities designed to improve access to stock, reduce packaging and material waste, and lower shipping costs
-
An extended shipping sortation system
“The new warehouse addition is designed to make life easier and better for our warehouse associates, shipping partners, and customers,” stated Allied’s VP of Business Operations Scott Jayes. Allied Electronics & Automation is a distributor of industrial automation products, electronic components, and electromechanical products with more than 3.5 million parts available online.
